Woodland Park, Passaic County, New Jersey - On Tuesday July 5th at 14:20 hrs Woodland Park police were dispatched for a reported two car motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Taft Avenue and Jackson Avenue in the borough. Thomas Shields, 42, of Flanders, NJ passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at St. Clare's Hospital in Denville, NJ. Tom was born on August 19, 1968 in Passaic, NJ. He lived in Flanders for the past 7 years and was previously from West Paterson, NJ. Tom owned and operated an Alarm Company called Security Controls, Concepts, and Designs. Tom was the Assistant Chief of the Flanders Fire and Rescue Company #1 and a past Lieutenant of the West Paterson Company #2. He also volunteered with the Boy Scouts. Tom enjoyed deep sea fishing and golf and loved going to Disney World with his family.
Tom is survived by his wife of 11 years Nicole Shields; his children Brandon and Gregory Shields; his parents Jack and Teresa Shields; his brother Jack Shields and wife Cindy and their children Meghan, Dan and Taylor of Bozrah, Ct; his Brother-in-Law Michael Petruzzi of Mays Landing, NJ; and his mother and father-in-laws Judy and Dennis Petruzzi.

The West Paterson Fire Department responded to a working structure fire on Saturday, April 16, 2011. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a fire in the kitchen and laundry room. The fire was quickly knocked down. The Little Falls Fire Department resonded to the scene as a Rapid Intervention Team. The Borough received mutual aid from the Totowa Fire Department to cover the Borough's firehouses.

The West Paterson Fire Department recently held a training program for Rapid Intervention Crews. The class covered the dangers of fires in Garden Apartments and Townhouses. It was provided by Emergency Training Associates. The training was provided with funds from the FEMA 2009 Assistance to Firefighter's Grant. The training was also attended by firefighters from Totowa and Little Falls.

The West Paterson Fire Department recently placed a Bauer Unicus III Breathing Air Compressor in service. The compressor was purchased with funds from the FEMA 2009 Assistance to Firefighter's Grant Program. Funds from the grant were also awarded towards the purchase of a Rapid Intervention Crew Training Program.
The West Paterson Fire Department responded to 58 calls for service during the March 2011 floods. Responses included 18 Utility Shutoffs, 23 Pump Outs, 1 Water Rescue, 1 Evacuation, 2 Water Conditions, 3 Assist Residents, 2 Activated Fire Alarms, 2 Hazardous Conditions, 1 Electrical Fire, 2 Odors of Smoke, 1 Gas Leak and 1 Request for Mutual Aid to Little Falls.

New Jersey State Fire Marshall's March 2011 Bulletin
Pasquale "John" Cortese, age 74, of Woodland Park, passed away on February 28, 2011. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1962-1966. He later worked for over 45 years as a senior service advisor for Feldner Cadillac in Hackensack. He was a devoted volunteer firefighter for the West Paterson Fire Department Company #1 for 25 years and was an exempt fireman.
He was the beloved husband for over 44 years to Johane J. (nee Waldo). He was the treasured father to John D. Cortese and Joann Lombardo and her husband Anthony. He was the adored grandfather to Brooke and Jamie Lombardo. He was the dear brother to Mary Ann Farelli and her husband, Firefighter Gus Farelli and Gloria Wittig and her husband, former Fire Chief Jack Wittig. He was also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The West Paterson Fire Department responded to the Borough's first working structure fire of 2011. In the early morning hours of Monday, January 17th, firefighters responded to a report of a garage fire at 83 Lackawanna Avenue. Upon arrival they encountered a smoke condition in the area. After gaining entry to the structure, they discovered a vehicle on fire within the single story garage and quickly knocked down the fire. Mutual aid was received from the Township of Little Falls for a Truck Company, since Truck 2 was out of service for mechanical problems.
Our Annual Fund Drive is currently in progress.
Firefighters are still going door to door collecting donations.

The West Paterson Fire Department hosted a Countywide Mutual Aid Drill on Sunday, August 8th at 6:00 a.m. The drill involved participation from each of Passaic County's 16 fire departments. The drill was part of an effort to test the departments abilities to work together. For additional photos CLICK HERE.
THANKS to all who helped welcome ENGINE 3 home last night! The NEW fire engine arrived in it's quarters! The new pumper was met at the town border and escorted into town and escorted to our fire station. We had a genuine Olde Time Housing and Open House, a great experince for everyone involved. The engine is now in the process of being striped and lettered.
THANKS TO ALL - Who donated or attended Rifle Camp Fire Company # 3's Annual Tricky Tray Fundraiser and Super 50/50. The event was held on September 24th, 2010 at the Clifton Boy’s and Girl’s Club, located at 181 Colfax Avenue in Clifton, New Jersey.

MULROONY- Joseph E., 74, of Woodland Park died Tuesday.
Born in Paterson, NJ, Mr. Mulroony resided in West Paterson for his entire life as a third generation resident. He retired from the Borough of West Paterson Road Department. Previously he was employed with Public Service Electric and Gas Co. Mr. Mulroony was a member of West Paterson Fire Department and a Veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1955-57.
Survivors include: his wife, the former Barbara Hebert; his children: Marybeth and Mark DeLotto, Patricia Mulroony, Maureen Mulroony, Tim and Danielle Mulroony, Brian and Sara Mulroony, Matthew and Candy Mulroony, Ellen and Bill Bucher.
